Who Was Buddha
Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual teacher and founder of Buddhism. He was born in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 6th century BCE, into a royal family. According to Buddhist tradition, upon his birth, it was prophesied that he would become either a great king or a great spiritual leader. His father, wanting him to become a king, sheltered him from the outside world and provided him with a luxurious lifestyle.
However, at the age of 29, Siddhartha left his palace and encountered the realities of life, including suffering, old age, and death. This experience led him on a spiritual quest to seek the end of suffering and attain enlightenment. He spent several years practicing meditation and austerities, but eventually abandoned these extreme practices and found a middle way.
According to tradition, at the age of 35, Siddhartha attained enlightenment while meditating under a Bodhi tree, and became known as the Buddha, meaning "the awakened one". He spent the rest of his life teaching his followers the path to enlightenment, which became the foundation of Buddhism. The Buddha's teachings have had a profound impact on the world, and Buddhism is now one of the major religions practiced worldwide.
